Calcium oxide (CaO), or quicklime, is a white crystalline solid produced by heating limestone. It’s highly reactive with water, forming slaked lime and releasing heat. Primarily used in cement production, steel manufacturing, water treatment, and agriculture (soil liming). It’s a strong base and can be caustic.
